Successful Lighting for Video

Creative use of light can turn an otherwise ordinary scene into something special.  This programme uses many documentary and drama examples to illustrate ways of controlling light, whether it be sunlight, domestic lighting, or professional video lights.
The control and principles of light are considered in five sections; Contrast, Quality, Direction, Intensity and Colour.
The method of three-point lighting is described in detail and then the programme moves on to look at the problems encountered when mixing natural daylight with artificial light.
The importance of safe practice is discussed, and then the programme follows the production of a complete short professional drama involving night-time, daytime, and day for night lighting set-ups.
A final drama example looks at the creative possibilities of non-naturalistic lighting.
The commentary is spoken by BBC broadcaster Sean Street, and each programme is delivered in sections punctuated with Key Point Summaries
