Successful Sound for Video

Sound recording for video can be divided into two distinct phases;  sound recorded during production and sound recorded during post-production.
This programme uses drama and documentary examples to consider why creative and good sound are so important.
Different types of microphone are discussed and examples of when and where to use them.  For example: when 'wild' or non-synchronous sound is more appropriate than sync sound, the use of audio mixers on location and later in post production, recording levels, distortion, multitracking, mixing, etc.
Following a section devoted to music and sound effects, the programme closes with a short dramatic ghost story which demonstrates the importance of sound and music in video production.
The commentary is spoken by BBC broadcaster Sean Street, and each programme is delivered in sections punctuated with Key Point Summaries.
